Here is a cup that deserves to be part of a collection of 1950s ceramics. It is a witness to the history of French ceramics from the 1950s, signed by Paul Fouillen, a master ceramist whose story is fascinating (a bit of research online will provide you with much more detail than what follows). Born in 1899, he joined the famous H.B. Pottery in Quimper in the 1920s, where he quickly became the workshop manager. He left the company in 1929 to start his own business in another field: decorative furniture, before returning to pottery in 1945. However, he passed away suddenly in 1956. Therefore, we can date this cup precisely between 1945 and 1956. The decoration, done by hand, is characteristic of Paul Fouillen: very colourful, in autumn tones of orange, green, and brown, extremely detailed, with multiple influences: Celticism, Cubism... For me, it even evokes Mexico, Aztec culture. This cup is in very good condition, with no cracks, chips, or even a scratch; the decoration is intact. It measures 8 cm in height, 13 cm in width including the handle, and approximately 9.5 cm in diameter.
