Small sloping desk called "billet doux". The "billets doux" were small pieces of furniture with a fabric screen. Placed in front of an unlit fireplace, they avoided feeling the draft from the fireplace. A small writing desk allowed you to write short messages. This one is from the 19th century in mahogany and mahogany veneer. Its screen, with its well-worn period fabric, is now useless. The door is covered in leather but it is not really intended to be a work support. It is very slightly warped (see photo) and does not lock. Two interior drawers and two lockers provide storage.
