Antique secretary desk with a falling front, Danish Skønvirke, early 20th century.
A secretary of skønvirke / almue style with a sloping front, also known as a slant-front desk, dating from the late 19th century or early 20th century. Made by a Danish cabinetmaker. The hinged front folds down to create a functional writing surface, revealing an interior painted in a warm yellow tone. The exterior features a striking painted surface, worn by time, in a muted purple hue, enriched by layers of previous finishes visible through natural cracks and wear. This textured surface tells a story of age and use, giving the piece a unique depth and artistic quality. Beneath the writing compartment, a drawer provides additional storage space, further enhancing the desk's practicality. This antique secretary desk complements many interior styles, including rustic, wabi-sabi, farmhouse, Scandinavian, or classic.
