Fish Representative - mixed technique on paper - 1920s. Painter Silvio Polloni (Florence 1888-1972) Frame size 73x64 painting 39x30. The son of a decorative craftsman, he was sent at a young age as a "shop boy" by a family friend who was a gilder. In the meantime, he attended the Art Institute until his secondary studies and the Free Nude School of the Academy of Fine Arts. Mobilised in 1915 for the First World War, upon returning to the city, he dedicated a few years to music and singing, then definitively focused on painting from 1924 onwards. In 1928, he participated in the XVI edition of the International Art Biennale of the City of Venice, exhibiting "Tuscan Village - Surroundings of Florence" and was again present at the XVII edition in 1930 with "The Mensola Stream", at the XVIII edition in 1932 with "Bagnetti on the Arno" and "Winter on the Arno", at the XIX edition in 1934 with "Tuscan Village", "Snow on the City", "Autumn Afternoon" and "Tuscan Path" and finally at the XX in 1936 with "Red House", "Grey Day" and "Old Mill on the Arno". He was present at five editions of the National Quadriennale Art Exhibition at the Palazzo delle Esposizioni in Rome, starting from the first edition in 1931, where he exhibited "Trees of the Stream", followed by "Level Crossing", "Young Girl Sitting" and "On the Arno" (II edition, 1934) up to the V edition in 1948. From 1933 to 1943, he participated in the editions of the Exhibition of the Fascist Union of Fine Arts held in Florence. As Armando Nocentini wrote, "Polloni was able to sing and exalt the beauty of his land, the enchantment of a fertile countryside, the Arno that crosses it and the simple life that unfolds there...". "Starting from a type of painting close to the tradition of the Tuscan Macchiaioli, he integrates it with suggestions of impressionist derivation; subsequently, his compositions acquire their own originality, made of bright but always measured colours.".
