Pair of ceremonial armchairs in carved wood – Twisted columns and lion heads – Renaissance style. A spectacular pair of large ceremonial armchairs in richly carved wood, in the Renaissance style, featuring particularly decorative architecture. The high backs are framed by twisted column uprights and topped with significant openwork and sculpted pediments adorned with large scrolls, foliage, shells, and ornamental motifs. The upholstered armrests end in remarkable carved lion heads, adding a great deal of character to the whole. The legs, also highly detailed, feature turned and carved feet connected by twisted stretchers, harmoniously echoing the decoration of the back uprights. The seats and backs are upholstered in a blue fabric with a tone-on-tone floral pattern, offering an elegant contrast to the wooden structure. The armchairs currently have a painted patina in aged white, intentionally worn in places to reveal the wood and the reliefs of the sculpture. With their generous dimensions, high backs, and abundance of sculpted decoration, these armchairs possess a strong decorative presence and would be perfect in a large entrance hall, a library, a living room, or a characterful interior. Style: Renaissance / Neo-Renaissance. Period: late 19th century. Dimensions of each armchair: Height: 135 cm. Width: 68 cm. Depth: 56 cm. Seat height: 46 cm. Overall good condition, with signs of use and visible wear of the patina, consistent with their decorative character.
