Scandinavian Wooden Candleholders, Set of 6

A set of six vintage wooden candleholders, designed in the Mid-Century Modern aesthetic characteristic of Scandinavian design. Each candlestick has a different, individually crafted form, yet they are all united by the technique of woodturning and a passion for rhythmic, contoured shapes. These types of turned wooden candlesticks were a popular element of Scandinavian interior design in the 1950s–1970s. The individual forms create a composition based on spherical, spindle-shaped, and ring-shaped profiles. The characteristic narrowings and widenings give them an almost sculptural character, while the varying heights help create an interesting rhythm throughout the set. The visible wood grain, variations in shades of honey, caramel, and darker brown, and the natural patina further emphasize their age and individuality. A simple woodturning technique has been used here in a highly decorative way—each candleholder resembles a small functional sculpture. The set can be displayed together to create a cohesive, multi-level composition, or the individual pieces can be used separately. The set includes 6 candleholders. They are not attributed to a specific designer or manufacturer—their value lies primarily in the set’s cohesiveness, the quality of craftsmanship, and the distinctive aesthetics of Scandinavian craftsmanship. The height of the candlesticks varies from 23.5 cm to 13.5 cm - the diameter of the base about 4 cm - 7 cm.
