Pair of antique Italian Savonarola chairs, X- chairs. C.1900 Italy in very good condition. Dimensions; open; 52x69x88H cm sitting height 46 cm. Dimensions closed: 20x50x90H cm. These chairs are a Renaissance-style form, named after the 15th-century Dominican friar Girolamo Savonarola. The design, featuring a scissor-like mechanism, dates back to antiquity and was originally a symbol of authority.The chairs in the image feature deeply carved details, including three-dimensional lion heads on the armrests and paw feet.
