Painted Folk Art Marriage Chest

A primitive yet highly decorative bridal chest from Romania. This chest is made of pine and dates from around 1900. The original paintwork is somewhat worn, which, however, gives it its characteristic appearance. A few old repairs and traces of woodworm are visible. Naturally, the chest has been treated, inspected, and is ready for use. It was once customary to give bridal furniture like this to the couple at a wedding. These pieces were later placed in a state room on the farm, rarely used for distinguished guests or special occasions. A beautiful and decorative piece of history.
