A pair of very beautiful flat plates with a shallow basin, slightly hollow, antique Gien faience, Coq and Peonies model. They feature a Japonese-style decoration of a rooster, peonies, flowering branches, and a blue frieze on the rim. The decoration is done by blue transfer, enhanced and hand-coloured in orange-red, yellow, and green. Being antique, they bear the Gien monogram on the reverse, in a variant close to the mark from the 1900s, here without the mention of France. 26cm in diameter and approximately 3cm in height. Very good overall condition, fine ancient crazing of the glaze, relatively numerous but discreet cutlery scratches and small signs of patina. Approximately 450g each.
