Vintage dessert plate in fine earthenware, featuring a vibrant polychrome decoration. At the centre of the piece, a rooster proudly perched on its spurs is surrounded by a generous bouquet of blooming peonies, flowering branches, and foliage treated in a harmonious palette of blue and red—set against a beautifully luminous white background. The scalloped border, delicately highlighted with a blue rim punctuated by small floral motifs, frames the whole with lightness. This decor, inspired by Eastern influences, blending Chinese elements and French earthenware tradition, is characteristic of the craftsmanship of Gien, which has elegantly appropriated and reinterpreted major decorative repertoires over the centuries. This manufacture was founded in 1821 in Loiret by the English entrepreneur Thomas Hulm. Located in the former buildings of a royal convent, it quickly established itself as one of the most prestigious fine earthenware manufacturers in France. Renowned for the richness of its hand-painted decorations, fired at high temperatures to ensure their durability, it draws inspiration from Eastern, Renaissance, and French decorative arts, and among its most famous collections are floral, hunting, and historical decorations. The reverse bears the authentic stamp: Gien France — Guaranteed unalterable decoration — Fired at 1150° — Hand-painted. A plate of character, as beautiful hung on the wall as it is used at the table. D 22 cm
