Jens Quistgaard, the Danish soul of tableware
Jens Harald Quistgaard (1919-2008) is one of the Danish designers who shaped modern Scandinavian tableware. Trained in his father's wood sculpting workshop, then with goldsmith Georg Jensen, he became in 1954 the chief designer of Dansk International Designs, a publisher founded to export Scandinavian design to America. For thirty years, he signed cutlery, dishes, cutting boards, vases and teapots in teak, stainless steel and enamelled cast iron. The Pepper Mill, Pinch cutting board and Købenstyle casserole remain his most produced pieces.
Fjord cutlery, teak cutting boards and Købenstyle casseroles by Jens Quistgaard remain the designer's most identifiable pieces. Scandinavian vintage tableware to find for those wanting an iconic Danish everyday signature.
