This set of eight dining chairs, comprising six chairs without armrests and two armchairs, was designed by Leslie Dandy for the British furniture manufacturer G-Plan during the 1960s. The set is a characteristic example of British Mid-Century Modern design, combining an elegant form, functionality and carefully crafted woodworking details. The chairs are crafted from teak wood, whose warm tones and natural grain enhance the character of the design. Their most distinctive feature is the tall, slender backrests, finished with gently sculpted wooden top rails featuring a subtle wave-like profile. This detail gives the chairs an elegant silhouette and emphasizes their modernist character. The backrests and seats are upholstered in very quality black fabric, creating a striking contrast with the warm tones of the teak wood. The high backrests provide comfortable support, while the carefully shaped, padded seats ensure comfort during everyday use. The two armchairs feature additional wooden armrests with gracefully flowing lines. Their shape harmoniously complements the overall construction, providing both a decorative feature and practical arm support. The armchairs can be positioned at either end of a dining table to create a coordinated dining set. The chairs rest on slender, slightly tapered legs, giving the construction a sense of visual lightness. Carefully crafted woodworking joints and harmonious proportions are characteristic of British furniture design from the 1960s. The set has undergone professional woodwork and upholstery restoration. The wooden elements were stripped of the old coating and subsequently finished with high-quality Danish oil, enhancing the natural grain and warm colour of the teak wood. As part of the upholstery restoration, the upholstery interiors of the seats and backrests have been replaced, and the chairs have been reupholstered in new, high-quality black fabric. The restoration has preserved the original form of the chairs while restoring their attractive appearance and seating comfort. The set is ideally suited to a spacious dining room or living room, particularly when paired with a large teak dining table. Its timeless design and combination of natural wood with dark upholstery allow the chairs to complement both classic vintage furniture and contemporary interiors.
