"mountain village" oil on canvas signed lower right by alexander orloff. Alexandre orloff is a painter of russian origin, born in rodome in poland (according to other sources – in st. Petersburg) in 1899, died near paris, in 1979. Alexandre orloff spent his childhood in russia. In 1924, he left russia and settled in prague where he attended the ukrainian school of fine arts, a student of sergei mako. He exhibited in various galleries in czechoslovakia and poland, in 1933 he had a solo exhibition at the prague gallery karasek. He participated in several artistic associations, became an illustrator for "prager press". He moved to france in 1933 where he exhibited at the salon des tuileries and the salon des indépendants, the salon de l'art libre and the salon des réalités nouvelles. Personal exhibitions were held in 1969, 1973, 1975. He spent the last years of his life at the russian retirement home zemgora in cormeilles-en-parisis.
