Exceptionally rare set of twelve authentic dining chairs model "Pia", designed in 1959 by Poul Cadovius and manufactured in Denmark. A trained saddler and upholsterer, Cadovius is among the major creators and entrepreneurs of mid-century Danish design. He became famous for his revolutionary wall shelf system "Royal System", and then led CADO, one of the most important Danish furniture manufacturers of his time. The Pia is his most well-known chair. Sets of this size have become almost impossible to find: twelve matching chairs allow for a large, cohesive dining table. The Pia is an exercise in reduction: Cadovius wanted a chair in the spirit of the 1950s, but lighter and more delicate. The legs taper towards the ends and do without rungs. The chairs are made of walnut and teak. The tapered legs with sharp edges contrast with the gently curved backrest – a combination of graphic rigor and organic form. The seats have been entirely re-woven by hand in traditional paper cord, in accordance with the original model. The walnut has been cleaned, carefully restored, and re-lacquered, without losing its original character. The chairs are stable, comfortable, and ready for use. Condition: very good vintage condition – professionally restored, seats re-woven, with only minimal signs of use due to age. An extremely rare set of this size. Dimensions: approximately 50 × 52 × 78 × 45 cm (width × depth × height × seat height)
