“Mio” chair by Bruno Mathsson, 1980s

Chair with a chrome-plated tubular steel frame and a continuous shaped seat, padded and upholstered in red fabric. “Mio” Mi 408 by Bruno Mathsson, Swedish production, 1980s. Designed by Bruno Mathsson in 1981, the “Mio” Mi 408 chair belongs to a later phase of the Swedish designer’s work, here developed through the use of chrome-plated tubular steel. The slender structure defines the legs and backrest uprights with a clean line, leaving the construction fully visible. The seat and backrest instead form a shaped upholstered surface, complemented by padded armrests, contrasting the visual lightness of the metal with a softer, more enveloping profile. The model reflects the evolution of Mathsson’s design language while retaining his longstanding exploration of the relationship between ergonomics, comfort and structural clarity. Good condition.
