Set of four chairs with chrome-plated tubular steel frames and shaped red fabric upholstery. “Mio” Mi 408 by Bruno Mathsson, Swedish production, 1980s. Designed by Bruno Mathsson in 1981, the “Mio” Mi 408 chairs represent a later phase of the Swedish designer’s work, here developed through the use of chrome-plated tubular steel. The slender structure defines the legs and backrest uprights with a clean, continuous line, leaving the chair’s construction fully visible. In contrast, the seat and backrest form a single shaped upholstered surface, complemented by padded armrests: a solution that combines the visual lightness of metal with a softer, more enveloping approach to seating. The geometry of the frame also allows the chairs to be stacked, integrating a specific functional requirement into their form. The model thus reflects the evolution of Mathsson’s design language while retaining his longstanding focus on ergonomics, comfort and structural clarity. Good condition. They may show signs of age.
