An Art Nouveau sugar bowl made of brass covered with a layer of silver, an example of German craftsmanship by Berndorf from the early 20th century. The vessel is kept in a cool, silvery colour with a matte finish, slightly shiny in areas of more intensive use. The body is decorated with wide, vertical grooves, creating a segmented pattern typical of Art Nouveau style. The domed lid, topped with a polygonal handle and concentric rings, rests on a rim decorated with a raised band of 'beads'. Symmetrically arranged, slender handles, mounted separately, complete the whole and emphasize the functionality of the design. The surface shows pitting, discoloration, tarnish and minor scratches appropriate for its age, but no major damage or dents. The whole was made using traditional metalworking techniques. Preserved in good condition – it bears typical signs of the passage of time, confirming its authenticity. The form of the vessel reflects the spirit of Art Nouveau: expressive yet balanced, with a geometric-organic rhythm of grooves. Early 20th-century ideas resonate here in the subtle sheen of the silver surface and the delicate variation of matte and light reflections.
