In beautiful condition, this sculpture appears to be a studio plaster cast, a unique piece with a verdigris patina. Signed 'P. BAEKE' and dated '58' Biography: Paul Baeke was born in 1927 and is a painter/sculptor from Namur (Fernelmont). Paul Baeke was drawn to vibrant settings: trees, sky, clouds, plains, winds, and brightly colored landscapes, but he was also a sculptor, inspired by the human figure and the female nude. Paul never tired of working with cement or plaster to create busts with expressive faces, representing mothers, children, and couples. He juggled shapes and curves, marveling at delicate compositions that exuded purity, tenderness, and simplicity. This artist transformed his home into a studio, a living space, and a near-permanent exhibition, as his gift was such an integral part of his personality. He died in 2010. A technical force like other Belgian sculptors such as Willy Anthoons, Jean Purvez, Willy Kreitz, Oscar Jespers, Oscar De Clerck, and Auguste Mambour, among others. Paul Baeke is a sculptor who evolved towards Expressionism.
