Oval portrait on canvas of a magistrate circa 1680-1720. Bust portrait of a magistrate represented in three-quarters view against a dark background. The subject wears a black ceremonial robe associated with a white collar, a characteristic attire of the magistracy during the reign of Louis XIV and the early 18th century. His long curly wig, emblematic of the administrative and judicial elites of the time, affirms his social rank and position. Note an old relining, with a tiny loss of paint on the cheek (see photo). The frame is period oak, carved and painted, with some small losses.
