4 sculptural stoneware cups by Philippe Monroig

Rare set of four glazed stoneware cups signed by Philippe Monroig, a ceramist based in the Pyrénées-Orientales, known for his work with high-temperature glazes that have particularly expressive mineral effects. Each piece features a free and organic silhouette, reminiscent of a stylised leaf or an abstract plant form. The asymmetrical lines, small cut-outs, and discreet foot give the whole a sculptural presence that far exceeds mere utilitarian function. The glazes offer a remarkable palette of deep blues, turquoise, intense black, and aubergine shades. The drips, overlays, and variations in firing create unique material effects on each cup. Incised signature under each piece: Philippe Monroig is known for his research on stoneware glazes and high-temperature firings. His work notably involves compositions made from wood ash and metal oxides, producing these characteristic mineral effects and depths of colour. In excellent vintage condition, shiny (see photos).
