Five florentine gilded wooden coasters

A set of five decorative coasters in different colors: orange, pink, white, mint green, green. The motifs are classically inspired. The décor was engraved in gesso/stucco which was then painted with gold and coloured paint. This typically florentine technique was used to embellish furniture and other wooden objects during the renaissance in the 15th century; it became fashionable again in the victorian era, and again in the 1940s to 1960s. Size: 10.5 cm diameter, 1 cm high.
