Ceramic shell service in glazed earthenware, consisting of six shell plates and their matching serving dish, made by Marius Giuge, a renowned specialist in jasper decoration and a major figure in the ceramic scene of Vallauris in the 1950s–1970s. Each plate is carved with cavities for shells, arranged in a rosette pattern, while the central dish features the same motif in a larger format. The pieces are shaped from a dark, dense clay, contrasted by a relief decoration in turquoise, deep green, and golden brown glazes, offering beautiful effects of texture and depth. The thick, deliberately textured glaze work reflects the expressive aesthetic characteristic of Vallauris in the 1960s, balancing artistic exploration with the repurposing of tableware into sculptural objects. The whole exudes a strong, graphic, and organic presence, equally interesting as tableware or as a decorative piece. Stamped. Diameter of the dish 28 cm Diameter of the plates 17 cm. In excellent vintage condition, with slight signs of wear consistent with age (see photos). An emblematic set of Vallauris production from the 1960s, perfect for a table or a bold decoration, resonating with current trends that value expressive, organic, and sculptural pieces.
