An antique Georgian/Regency veined Carrara Marble Bullseye fireplace surround, with concave and convex channel moulds to the frieze and jambs, the corner-blocks composed of convex roundels typical of the period. English, c.1810. This elegant fireplace surround is a particularly good example of a design typical to the early nineteenth-century Regency period, the mouldings throughout in well-carved and sharply defined 'Old English' Carrara Marble. Carrara marble has enjoyed enduring popularity in a range of architectural and sculptural applications since being extensively quarried by the Romans some two thousand years ago. It’s predominantly composed of calcite which gives it its bright white colour, the grey veins a result of other mineral impurities. At Arlington Works all our fireplaces are prepared and restored in our workshops in London to the very best standards and are ready for installation and use. We are also able to offer a full supply and fit service for our fireplaces within Great Britain and are happy to discuss options for hearths and interior firebox finishes.
