Charming watercolour on paper titled The Wood of Pigeons (鳩之林 – Hato no Hayashi), depicting a group of pigeons pecking in a grassy area. Executed with finesse in the traditional Japanese style, this work is signed in the top right corner, with an inscription in kanji accompanied by its phonetic transcription in katakana. The scene, of great delicacy, accurately illustrates the plumage, postures, and nuances of the birds. The mixed use of ink and watercolour evokes the techniques of Nihonga painting, typical of the late Meiji period or the early Taishō era (circa 1900–1920). The paper shows a visible vertical crease, likely a remnant of an old mounting or storage. The whole is presented in a gold-painted wooden frame with a bamboo motif, probably of the period, measuring 42 x 48 cm (including frame dimensions). General condition: good, with visible signs of age (central crease, slight creases, slightly altered background). The frame is in good condition, with a patina consistent with its age.
