Rare gouache by Pierre Dubreuil, design for the tapestry "The Tuscan Garden" from the Aubusson tapestries, property of the national furniture (see last photo). This gouache on paper is in used condition (see photos) and deserves a frame worthy of its magnetism. Low-warp tapestry woven in 1942 in Aubusson, Lauer workshop, based on the cartoon GMTC 717 and the tracing GMTC 724. Weaving signed by Pierre Dubreuil. In the foreground, a garden, planted with lemon trees and flowers, opens onto a terrace with a pergola covered in vines. Two pigeons are perched on a low wall next to a half watermelon and a jug. In the background, mountains are silhouetted against a slightly cloudy blue sky. The scene is framed by a wide border adorned with floral and bird motifs. Pierre Dubreuil, born in Quimper (Finistère) on 8 September 1891, died in Paris on 17 February 1970, was a painter and engraver. After leaving the École des Beaux-Arts after a term, he joined Henri Matisse's workshop in 1909, where he studied painting and sculpture. Mobilised, he did not exhibit until 1921, at the Salon des Indépendants and the Salon d'Automne, of which he became a member the same year; he also exhibited at the Tuileries. He is responsible for the mural decoration of the École de Navigation de Paimpol, working on this project with Emile Laboureur and Jean Frélaut. He created tapestry cartoons for the Gobelins and for Aubusson. As an engraver, a member of the Independent Painter-Engravers and the French Painter-Engravers, he produced many sought-after plates for collectors and worked extensively on the illustration of books.
