Small Wellington chest of drawers in walnut veneer with marked grain, English work from the Victorian era, mid-19th century, around 1840-1860. Beautiful English Wellington chest of drawers, circa 1840-1860, in the style of Gillows, made of figured walnut veneer, appealing due to the quality of its grain, the rarity of its compact size, and the preservation of its ingenious side locking mechanism. The piece opens at the front with seven drawers of varying sizes, equipped with their turned wooden knobs. The drawers are flanked by a movable side pilaster, fitted with a brass lock, forming a locking system for the whole, according to the principle of the Wellington chest. The mechanism is in working order; however, the absence of the key prevents locking. On the front and sides, there is strongly figured walnut veneer. Rectangular top, base with a plinth. It has a beautiful decorative presence for this small model, with narrow and vertical proportions, characteristic of this type of 19th-century English furniture. Very good overall condition. Signs of use and visible micro-scratches. Key is missing. Presence of old chalk marks on the back, possibly corresponding to an old inventory or sale number.
