Design chair by borge mogensen, also called spanisch chair, 1960 denmark. This original safari chair was made in the 1960s and therefore the saddle leather has a beautiful patina, a very sturdy model with oak frame. Just a topper among the chairs. The chair is made by fredericia and it is model 2226. With the spanish chair, mogensen expanded his work with solid oak and saddle leather. The chair was launched in 1958 as part of an innovative living space exhibition, where all tables were removed from the floor to create an open-plan living space. The maker mogensen was a trained cabinetmaker and furniture designer at the copenhagen school of arts and crafts before attending furniture design school at the royal danish academy of fine arts, where he was taught by kaare klint and graduated in 1941. Throughout his career mogensen continued to defend the ideals of evolutionary design progression that were essential to the klint school, while also expanding the tradition. Unlike klint, mogensen was not only inspired by the types and crafts of the traditional cabinetmaker, but adapted models planned for industrial production, as well as the more informal housing that emerged in the 1960s. Børge mogensen was one of the most influential designers in shaping danish modern design and the current designer of fredericia from 1955 until his death in 1972. He found inspiration all over the world in his quest to create everyday objects that will last for generations...
