"Califfo" sofa by Ettore Sottsass for Poltronova, Italy, c.1965

Italian work, c.1965. H 66 X W 200 X D 80 cm. Beech, foam and white boucle fabric. Very good condition. Openwork structure made of beech slats, seat and backrest upholstered in white boucle, without visible mechanism. Designed by Sottsass for Poltronova and published in the Domus magazine as early as 1965, this sofa predates the founding of the Memphis group by fifteen years — it showcases a Sottsass already attentive to free forms, before the graphic vocabulary that would make him famous. Can serve as a sofa, bench, or spare bed depending on the arrangement of the cushions.
