Important and large tabriz carpet "shah abbas" from a castle in belgium. Semi ancient (northwestern iran) circa 1940. Beautiful graphics (without central medallion), color of a unique emerald green and very rare in tabriz carpets. On an emerald field seedlings of palmettes of "shah-abbas" flowers, foliage in twists in the shape of stylized diamonds. Seven borders including the main ruby with decoration reminiscent of the central field in polychromy. Shah abbas carpets depict in their border a vine and flowers with a field of palmettes elaborated angular flowering and vines. These carpets are called "shah abbas" after the iranian monarch of that name who reigned during 1587 to 1629 ad. Shah abbas was the 5th safavid king of iran. He is generally regarded as the greatest ruler of the safavid dynasty. He left a deep mark on the society and artistic heritage of the year, by renovating the country's spectacular sanctuaries and he transformed his trade relations with the rest of the world. Today, shah abbas carpets are considered among the most beautiful persian rugs, they are a perfect reflection of it bringing elegance and grace to any room they adorn. Dimensions: 514x350 cm without fringes. Dimensions: 520x350 cm with fringes. Condition: fairly good overall condition. Wool a little lower in the center of the carpet but not visible, small stain in the kilim, abrangles in the center visible than on one side of the carpet, fringe restored on a small level of the carpet, edges in poor condition = restorations in some places and threads visible on others.
