This is a table lamp that rewards a closer look. The base is a solid disc of cast glass — circular, thick, and deeply worked with two contrasting textures: a rough, crystalline outer ring radiating outward like a sunburst, and a smooth frosted centre studded with polished circular lenses. The effect is sculptural and quietly hypnotic, especially when lit, when the glass catches and refracts the warm light in all directions. The lamp carries the original blue label of Nybro Glasbruk, a Swedish glassworks founded in 1935 in Nybro, Småland — the heart of Sweden’s famous Glasriket, or “Kingdom of Crystal, ” the same region that gave the world Kosta Boda and Orrefors. Nybro Glasbruk is notable for being one of the last Swedish glassworks to make glass exclusively by old-fashioned hand-moulding methods, a process that demands exceptional skill and gives each piece a subtle individuality. During the 1960s and 1970s, the glassworks expanded beyond everyday tableware into more decorative and artistic objects, of which this lamp is a fine example. The condition is perfect — no chips, cracks, or damage of any kind. The lamp comes complete with its white linen shade, brass fitting, and has been fully rewired and is ready to use.
