Willy Van Der Meeren, Teacher's Desk for Tubax

Teacher's desk by Willy Van Der Meeren for Tubax, Belgium, 1950s. Designed for schools and public institutions, the desk belongs to Van Der Meeren's search for affordable modern furniture based on standardisation, efficient use of material and serial production, central ideas within Belgian post-war modernism. Executed with a thin black lacquered metal frame, integrated black metal shelf and light blue Formica top. The contrast between the slender structure and durable industrial materials gives the desk its particular character. Well-proportioned rare piece with a comfortable size and authentic patina throughout.
