Among the youngest of his generation, he exhibits the same rigor that characterises the work of his peers, whose creations adhere to the modernist precept "form follows function." This demand is also that of a determined professional who relentlessly engages in the debates and claims of a profession in full development. Having died in a car accident at the age of 41, Étienne Fermigier, a shooting star of design, left a mark on his era with his unprecedented creative energy. An interior architect, he produced furniture with elegant and resolutely modern lines published by the greatest houses of his time, ventured into lighting design, showed interest in graphics and industrial object design, and even designed cars. This meteoric career is the almost unique archetype of the transition from decorator training to industrial designer, and it leaves little doubt that he could have been the most important representative of his generation if this cherished and claimed modernity had not cut him down in his prime...” Excerpt from the book French Design, The Generation of Young Wolves, Pascal Cuisinier, EPC/Flammarion, 2024, p. 130.
