This Model Exklusiv desk was designed by Erik Wørts for the Swedish company IKEA during the 1960s. The model is documented in original IKEA catalogues from the second half of the 1960s and is an interesting example of Scandinavian Mid-Century Modern design, combining an elegant form with outstanding functionality. The desk is crafted from rosewood, distinguished by its exceptionally decorative and expressive natural grain. Carefully selected rosewood veneer creates a striking grain pattern across the tabletop, fronts, and sides, giving the piece an elegant and sophisticated appearance. The construction consists of two suspended storage units. The left-hand unit features three spacious drawers, while the right-hand unit incorporates a pull-out work surface and a lockable storage compartment. A distinctive wooden mechanism allows the additional worktop to be pulled out and raised, creating a practical extra working surface. When not in use, the entire mechanism folds neatly inside the unit, preserving the clean lines of the desk. The desk is freestanding and was designed to be equally attractive from the front. Both units feature open bookshelves on this side, allowing the piece to be positioned either against a wall or freely in the centre of an office or living space. The Model Exklusiv appears in original IKEA catalogues as early as 1966. The desk has undergone comprehensive professional woodworking restoration. The wooden elements were stripped of the old coating, stained in a rosewood colour, and finished with a durable high-quality semi-matt lacquer, which protects the surface while enhancing the rich colour and exceptional grain of the rosewood. The desk comes with one key.
