Japanese-style secretary - 19th century

Charming late 19th century love note in wood and Martin varnish. Inspired by Asia, its decoration of birds, insects and vegetation is treated like Chinese or Japanese lacquers, it is present on all surfaces of the furniture. A flap opens onto a mail holder, two small compartments for inkwells on either side of a flat space used to place pen holders, all lacquered black, glittered with gold. A glass inkwell is missing. Good general condition, traces of time, some impacts on the wood, missing parts, worn felt on the inside of the flap. Key present. Small but very decorative, this piece of furniture can be easily placed anywhere.
