Chinese wedding cabinet – Art furniture, Paris

Superb Chinese wedding cabinet, custom-made in a cabinet-making workshop in Faubourg Saint-Antoine (Paris) in the 1980s. Fully adorned with remarkable polychrome mother-of-pearl marquetry (white, pink, and blue) on a matte black background, it features a refined decoration of birds, flowers, and landscapes inspired by traditional Chinese iconography. The panels are framed with a continuous mother-of-pearl frieze, while the curved legs are also richly decorated. This is a handcrafted piece, offering a quality of execution far superior to the industrial imports of the same era. Its meticulous decoration and beautiful proportions make it a characterful piece, suitable for both classic and contemporary interiors. The piece is in generally good condition. There are a few small veneer losses and signs of use, mainly at the base, consistent with its age, without detracting from its overall aesthetic (see photos).
