This spectacular asymmetrical sideboard (highboard) dates back to the 1930s and originates from the renowned woodworking workshops of Kalwaria Zebrzydowska (Poland), famous for their high-quality pre-war craftsmanship. Design & Style. The piece represents the luxurious Streamline Moderne style. Its dynamic, stepped form (often referred to as the "Skyscraper" style) features elegant curves and rounded edges. The absolute highlight of this piece is the veneer. The front is covered in exquisite Walnut Burl (Loupe de Noyer). The master craftsman arranged the grain in a mesmerizing book-matched and cross-matched pattern, creating a kaleidoscopic, symmetrical effect that looks like a work of art. Functionality. This furniture is as practical as it is beautiful. It features: A glazed display cabinet (perfect for glass or ceramics). A drop-down bar/secretary compartment. Spacious storage cupboards. A sturdy base on runners (sled base), finished in darker walnut for a stunning contrast. Condition & Restoration. The sideboard has undergone a comprehensive, professional restoration in our specialised workshop. Old varnish was completely removed. The surface was finished with high-quality hard wax oil. This modern technique highlights the depth of the grain, gives the wood a warm, satin touch, and protects it against moisture and daily use. The interior is clean and refreshed.
