An Art Deco table lamp handcrafted from an original Boch Frères Keramis Model 1118 vase, designed by Charles Catteau in the 1920s, featuring geometric relief and ivory craquelure glaze, paired with a raffia fringe shade. The lamp is newly wired for use in the U.S. (or for the country of your choice). This lamp is crafted from an authentic Boch Frères Keramis Model 1118 vase, designed by Charles Catteau and produced in La Louvière, Belgium between circa 1920 and 1930. Commonly referred to as the “pineapple” vase, the form is one of Catteau’s most recognizable Art Deco designs. The ovoid ceramic body features a repeating molded geometric relief that wraps rhythmically around the surface. The pattern references stylized natural forms while remaining rigorously structured — a hallmark of Catteau’s Art Deco vocabulary. The glaze is a soft ivory tone with fine craquelure, adding depth and subtle tonal variation across the raised pattern. Unlike painted Keramis examples, this model relies on sculptural form and glaze texture rather than surface decoration, giving it a restrained, architectural presence. The lamp is topped with a dome-shaped raffia shade, constructed in segmented panels and finished with cream braid trim and long fringe. Converted using non-invasive methods to preserve the integrity of the original ceramic form. About Boch Frères Keramis Founded in 1841 in La Louvière, Belgium, Boch Frères Keramis became one of Europe’s leading ceramic manufacturers in the early 20th century. Under the artistic direction of Charles Catteau (active from 1907 onward), the factory produced some of the most innovative Art Deco ceramics of the period, characterized by bold geometry, stylized natural motifs, and advanced glazing techniques. Catteau’s designs remain highly collected internationally. About Amitābha Studio: Amitābha Studio is a design atelier dedicated to transforming historic ceramics into one-of-a-kind lighting objects. Each lamp is crafted with deep reverence for the original form, using non-invasive methods that preserve the integrity of every antique or vintage vase. We pair these bases with bespoke lampshades—often made from luxurious textiles such as vintage sari silks or fine fabrics—and finish each piece with carefully selected cords, fittings, and handmade brass elements. Our work is guided by a commitment to sustainability, cultural heritage, and timeless design.
