Condition: The seat shell shows signs of use. The height adjustment works perfectly. Description: Arne Jacobsen was one of the most significant Danish architects and designers of the 20th century. His works are an integral part of modernism and are displayed in numerous museums around the world. The young Arne Jacobsen initially began an apprenticeship as a stonemason before studying architecture at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen. It was there — at this very institution — that Jacobsen, forced to flee to Sweden during World War II due to his Jewish heritage, was appointed professor in 1964. During this time, Jacobsen intensified his work as a designer. He created classics such as *The Ant*, *The Egg*, *The Swan*, *Grand Prix*, and the *Series 7* — all icons of modernism. This period also saw the creation of the *AJ* cutlery series, which Stanley Kubrick chose for his cult film of 1968, *2001: A Space Odyssey*.
