Pair of Bamboo Side Tables in the Shape of a Wheat Sheaf. Turquoise Lacquered.

Each side table is made up of a bundle of curved bamboo rods shaped like a diabolo, tightened at mid-height by a twisted link resembling rope, similar to a tied sheaf of wheat. The rods fan out in a corolla shape both upwards and downwards, and their horizontally cut sections create a stunning graphic mosaic of dots on the circular top. The whole piece is covered in a deep turquoise lacquer, subtly shaded with blues and greens. This sheaf of wheat model directly references the vocabulary of the Californian house McGuire, famous since the 1950s for its high-quality bamboo and rattan furniture, with the "Wheat Sheaf" tables being among its most iconic creations. The coloured lacquer, rare for this type of piece, gives it a unique decorative presence, straddling exoticism and neoclassical spirit. Condition report: Good overall condition. Homogeneous lacquer, healthy and stable structure. A pair full of character, ideal for framing a sofa or as side tables in a bohemian-style living room.
