The top lid contains a traditional mirror, and the front doors open to a compartment lined with old printed Japanese paper, a period practice applied to reinforce the wood and preserve the interior. The sculpted base and ornate hardware provide balance and refinement to this unique piece, typical of Japanese domestic culture, used for storing personal effects and delicate items.
