Oil on hardboard depicting a square, probably Pisa, with figures. With contemporary frame. Signed lower left: Gerolamo 1972. Pier Luigi Buscemi, alias Girolamo Bolli (Pisa 1933-2019). Frame dimensions: 45 X 35 cm - panel: 30 X 20 cm. Born in Pisa in 1933, Bolli lived in the province of Pisa and in the Valdinievole. Self-taught, he formed important professional friendships and was influenced by artists such as Renato Guttuso, Renato Natali of Livorno, the Pisan master Salvatore Pizzarello and Mino Maccari. Among his most famous works is "Jesus Presented to the Crowd", an oil on canvas painted in 1974. This imposing painting depicts the Passion of Christ, insulted, dragged and beaten before the Crucifixion, against a background of antiquity contrasting with a modern setting.
