Medieval Brussels Belgian Jacquard tapestry wall hanging. The scene depicts a landscape with figures on horseback in front of a detailed view of the city of Brussels in the background. The design is inspired by Flemish Verdure tapestries from the 16th century, which are now housed in the Louvre. Such decorative hangings are often made as reproductions from wool or other materials. One of twelve Belgian tapestries from medieval Jacquard representing the "Hunts of Maximilian" is an interpretation in the style of Flemish tapestries. The colourful scene, depicting the month of March with a ram in the centre, is full of activity and showcases several episodes of different figures capturing a moment in time. The spring scene takes place in the Sonian Forest, south of Brussels, with Emperor Charles V as the main figure leading the deer hunt, pursued by dogs. The background features a detailed, recognisable panorama of Brussels with the Coudenberg Palace, the Town Hall, and St. Michael and St. Gudula Cathedral. Various nobles, including falconers with birds of prey and dog handlers, are amidst the lush landscape full of foliage and forest green.
