Charlotte Perriand sideboard, Les Arcs

It is a solid pine dresser or cabinet designed by Charlotte Perriand for the Les Arcs resort in the 1970s. It consists of four doors and two sliding drawers, structured in two distinct elements: a robust base and a sleek top. The piece, in good original condition, showcases an authentic patina, reflecting discreet and respectful use. Charlotte Perriand, a French designer and architect, made her mark on the history of modern design. After a successful collaboration with Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret (until 1937), she helped revolutionise furniture with tubular steel creations and modular systems, which were acclaimed upon their presentation at the 1929 Salon d'Automne. In 1937, she, along with Pierre Jeanneret, designed an alpine chalet made of aluminium sheeting, foreshadowing her interest in innovative materials. In 1940, she became a design advisor for the Japanese Ministry of Commerce and Industry and lived in Japan until 1946. This period profoundly influenced her work, as evidenced by the "Synthèse des Arts" chair (1953), which features clean lines inspired by Japanese aesthetics.
