Set of four original CH36 dining chairs in solid oak, designed in 1962 by Hans J. Wegner and manufactured by Carl Hansen & Søn in Denmark in the 1970s. Wegner is among the greatest furniture designers of the 20th century. With the CH36, he created a deliberately simple and honest chair, where the influence of American Shaker furniture is clearly noticeable: pure lines, streamlined construction, and perfect craftsmanship. Its wide, slightly curved backrest, which comfortably wraps around the back and rests on two slender rear legs, is its signature feature. The seat is hand-woven in Danish paper cord, a material Wegner used repeatedly that combines lightness, comfort, and exceptional durability. The chairs have been carefully cleaned, oiled, and varnished; the solid oak displays a beautiful natural patina. The seats have been completely re-woven in new Danish paper cord. An earlier owner had shortened the legs: we have restored them to their original height by intentionally extending them with contrasting walnut tips. This unique detail is particularly elegant and makes this classic model a truly one-of-a-kind piece. Condition: very good vintage condition, cleaned, oiled, and varnished, with new seats in Danish paper cord and legs extended with walnut tips. A timeless classic in the history of Danish design with a personal touch, ideal for a discerning dining room. Dimensions (per chair): width 52 cm, depth 48 cm, height 81 cm, seat height 45 cm.
