Charming desk with a blond wood structure. Work from the Faubourg (early 20th century).

Superb small desk (ideal for remote work) with a blond veneer wood system. Resting on four slender legs, with brass fittings on the front ones, it opens with a drawer at the front. Adorned with its two beautiful golden bronze handles and its original functional key and lock, it activates the opening of the small rounded curtain on top, which then reveals a small storage space and three adorable little drawers. One then grasps the top, pulling it towards oneself to unfold it: the writing space is thus accessible, with its beautiful green leather covering. The three small drawers have their original handles and marquetry on the front, just like the rest of the piece. This playful little system, incredibly easy to activate, is in perfect condition here and a pleasure to handle. Moreover, locking the drawer allows for securing access to the workspace. It is also marqueted on the sides and bears a very nice transport label underneath: CALSAT & PLAYE from Paris. The latter were ideally located on Rue de Citeaux in Paris, to organise the transport of manufactured furniture, like this one, from the famous Faubourg St Antoine, a historic hub of cabinetmaking. This desk, dating from the early 20th century, was shipped to old Lille, to a certain Mr Dhainaut. There is a small scratch on the veneer on the left side of the curtain, which is not very bothersome (see photo) and a significant detachment of the veneer at the back of the piece, which is designed to be placed against a wall (thus invisible once the desk is installed and without consequence on its sturdiness). Very elegant, and quite delicate in its patina and handling, it is charming. L: 75 cm. D: 53 cm (closed) and 72 cm (open). H: 95 cm. Height of the top: 72 cm. The price is firm, thank you.
