Monumental high Victorian library in solid mahogany with astral display cases.

We are delighted to offer for sale this exceptionally large and imposing Victorian display bookcase from around 1860, hand-carved from solid mahogany, featuring astral glass doors. This bookcase is one of the most spectacular pieces of furniture I have ever seen; it can comfortably hold thousands of books in one place, providing a monumental amount of storage. The shelves are all removable and height-adjustable, each with period green leather ends. The bookcase has three large hidden drawers, invisible unless you know they are there. The wood is entirely solid mahogany with flame mahogany panels on the bases of the doors. In terms of condition, it has been carefully cleaned, waxed, and polished by hand from top to bottom. Aside from the normal patina marks due to age and honest use, the piece is in very good condition throughout. Naturally, the piece separates into two easily transportable sections. Dimensions: Height: 290 cm, upper section alone 210 cm, lower section 80 cm. Width: 259 cm at the base, 274 cm at the top. Depth: 60.5 cm at the base, 49.5 cm at the top. Vintage and original period items like this leather will always have a natural patina in the form of creases and wear; it is recommended to wax annually to prevent moisture loss. Additionally, hand-dyed leather is not advised to be exposed to direct sunlight for long periods, as it may dry out and discolour.
