Important Bust of the General Bonaparte after Corbet – Terracotta -

Important bust of an old edition in engobed terracotta representing the young General Napoleon Bonaparte, based on the famous work sculpted by Charles-Louis Corbet in 1798 (Year VI). This historical model captures Bonaparte's features just before his departure for the Egyptian campaign. It is a beautifully crafted cabinet reduction dating from the second half of the 19th century (Second Empire / Napoleon III period). Genuine period terracotta moulded piece (visible assembly seams and original firing shrinkage defects inside). Overall good condition for an object that has survived for over a century. An internal firing crack has been perfectly consolidated with two-component resin to ensure the structural integrity of the piece. An internal moulding and assembly mark shows a period consolidation. Note: a small old chip on the base (see photos), revealing the red terracotta beneath the white engobe, which attests to its authenticity. It should be emphasised that the firing shrinkage and moulding marks only concern the internal part of the bust (thin thickness) and are not due to shocks or impacts but to perfectly common physico-chemical phenomena during the firing and cooling of artisanal pieces from this era. Beautiful original patina in fine plaster engobe, giving a very elegant stone/marble workshop appearance. Please refer to the photographs that complement this description. Height: 38 cm. Width: 33 cm. Depth: 19 cm. Weight: 6 kg (heavy and stable) Anonymous. Beautiful historical piece for an apartment, ideal for decorating a library, office, or curiosity cabinet.
