Painted ceramic signed by the artist Olisch. Olisch, born in 1969, under his artist name Olisch (the first name of his Polish great-grandmother Aulisch), Olivier Schmitt expresses minimalist forms and lines, heavily influenced by his passion for 20th-century design and modernist architecture. His pure polychromes, which rarely exceed three shades, mark a graphic and sensitive style. With a preference for large and very large formats, where he can liberate his gesture, his creativity is willingly informal, born from the moment. The forms emerge, suggested, shaded, rounded, in flat areas, dialoguing from afar, or architecturally interweaving with one another, then the composition makes sense and offers a second reading. Free. Suggested bodies, reduced to their primitive forms. Graphic emotions in an almost raw state. Memories of landscapes, resurfacing in essential lines... During his many travels, the artist wanders, observes, the lines and perspectives, soaking in real places, which are then imagined in geometric forms. A gifted self-taught artist, this Lille native, who has become a wanderer of the world, has always created—paintings, sculptures, furniture, jewellery—realising numerous commissioned pieces for private clients. Always in partnership with his wife Beretta Felding, also an artist, he has exhibited in France, in their own gallery, but also in Asia where they lived for a time, before settling under the sun of southern France.
