Top straw basket

Higher than wide basket, which may have served as an umbrella holder or cane holder, and which would make a nice paper basket. It is raw straw, twisted, spiraled, sewn vertically with solid, darker strands, which seems to be bramble. Indeed, this work of basketry resembles that of the charentaise baskets (bourgnes) made from grain straw and bramble strands. I cleaned it thoroughly (leaching with a small brush). This basket is in good condition, still solid, and stable on its base, no major defects but signs of use, the patina of time: ends of straw strands that fray and protrude all around. It measures 36 cm in height and a diameter of 23 cm. The braiding is about 3 cm thick. It weighs 1.3 kg.
