Vintage Japanese Desk – Showa Period (c.1926-1970) Dimensions: Length: 96 cm Depth: 66 cm Height: 76 cm. Style: Showa. Materials and Techniques: Japanese oak (Quercus spp.), Japanese ash (Fraxinus mandshurica var. Japonica), Shorea (Shorea spp.), plywood. Place of Origin: Japan. Period: Early Showa era. Date of Manufacture: Circa 1926-1970. Condition: Good. Wear is consistent with age and use. Original Japanese desk from the Shōwa period, featuring balanced proportions and a simple design, intended for daily work. The composition combines a wide top with a side cabinet that includes several drawers and compartments, providing a functional and well-organised solution without sacrificing refined aesthetics. The combination of oak and Japanese ash offers strength and rich grain, while the use of Shorea and plywood aligns with the robust construction methods characteristic of mid-20th century Japanese furniture. The integrated handles and the openwork details of the side structure introduce a subtle decorative dimension, without disrupting the formal clarity of the whole. A versatile piece, ideal as a desk, work table, or study table, fitting perfectly into contemporary, mid-century, or Japanese-inspired interiors. During the Shōwa period, Japanese furniture evolved towards functional forms suited to modern life, incorporating new typologies such as home desks and work furniture. Traditional craftsmanship techniques were maintained while being combined with industrial materials and a clearly utilitarian focus. It is in excellent condition, except for the imperfections typical of any antique, due to the passage of time. UNIQUE PIECE.
